Kid World Readers is a structured literacy on-demand homeschool reading programme. We coach parents and teach young children the essential skills of learning how to read and write successfully.

The sequential video programme and resources use explicit, systematic teaching that does all the heavy lifting of teaching for parents, who are supporting their child with learning how to read at home.

Kate has expertly and carefully designed these on-demand video lessons for parents and young beginning readers, using evidenced based literacy practices.

Each lesson develops both reading and writing skills by applying language skills, phonological skills, phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency and comprehension.

What age can my child start to learn how to read?

Over the years, research has shown us that children who have well developed foundational skills ~ Phonological skills ~ go on to become our most successful readers and writers. These phonological skills can be presented through play and everyday activities from 2 yrs old and they dont involve using printed letters, it is all based on listening to and repeating language sounds and patterns. When adults understand exactly what these skills are, they can truely make an important impact on a child's future reading success, through being intentional about presenting and developing these skills (in play) to their young child.

What can I do to help my struggling reader?

Struggling to learn how to read can be related to a number of issues some simply from not having formed letter - sound connections correctly or from not having had enough effective practice in developing this knowledge and skill needed for automaticity. Start with my "ABC Quick Quiz" to discover what your child does know and what they maybe struggling with. Then use this information to support their spelling development, consider which of my courses would best suit to support their next learning steps. If your child has been diagnosed with dyslexia, then my Homeschool Curriculum will explicitly teach your child to read and write at their own pace and they can repeat any lesson they need to anytime. This programme works best when you work along side your child and then support their practice through the follow up games and activities provided.

How can I help my child prepare for school?

The best place to start is your child's name - can they recognise it, read it and write it correctly? And importantly do they know their first and second name? Watch my "How to teach your child to write their name" Youtube video on my FREE resources page to learn how to teach this well. Next grab my FREE parent workshop "All About Reading" and printable resources to build your knowledge about the essential skills your child needs for successful reading. Where do I start with teaching my child how to read?

If your child is aged between 2yrs+ then please start with 'Early Reading Skills' which will teach you all about phonological skills, these are the foundation of 'pre-reading'. If your child is aged 4yrs+ then you can start with my FREE Parent Course ~ "All About Reading" to build your knowledge about the important skills of learning how to read and write well. Ensure your child can recognise, read and write their name correctly (in lowercase letters) and then consider my ABC ~ Ready to Read kids course that follows a scope and sequence of sounds, is fully guided by Kate and available on-demand to suit your family lifestyle.

What adult learning can I take to help my child?

If you are looking for resources that support you to independently teach your child to read, then please take a look at all my free resources and parent course starting with Early Years Reading Skills. It is really important that you take the time to build your knowledge and skills in the Science of Reading, teaching and learning through explicit teaching, feel confident with letters (phonics) and their correct sounds, have decodable reading material and have a teaching road map of the order you will follow ~ because learning how to read is NOT random, it must be taught well.
